The Presiding Deity of Ayodhya
Nageshwar Nath Temple is one of Ayodhya's most ancient and important temples, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built by King Kusha, son of Lord Rama, the temple houses an ancient Shivalinga. Legend states that Kusha's armlet fell into the river while bathing and was retrieved by a Naga princess who fell in love with him.
Kusha established this Shiva temple for his Naga bride. The present edifice dates to approximately 750 AD, making it one of the oldest standing structures in Ayodhya. The temple holds special significance during Shivratri.
