The Palace of Gold

Kanak Bhawan (Sone-ka-Ghar), one of Ayodhya's most beautiful temples, was gifted by Queen Kaikeyi to Sita at her marriage. The present Bundelkhand-style structure was built by Queen Vrishabhanu Kunwari of Orchha in 1891. The sanctum houses three pairs of golden-crowned Rama-Sita deities under a silver roof: the largest by Queen Vrishabhanu, the medium pair preserved by Vikramaditya, and the smallest gifted by Lord Krishna Himself to a devotee. Major festivals: Ram Navami, Phool Bangla (April-July), 15-day Jhula Festival, Sharad Purnima. Timings: 8 AM - 11 AM & 4:30 PM - 9 PM.
